TOLEDO BEND, LOUISIANA - SUNDAY JUNE 22, 2008 (Day 3)
BIG BASS SPLASH® RESULTS

Broadway Steals The Show with 10.98 To Take Grand Prize!

MANY, Louisiana - Story by Nicole Sealy
Jason Broadway of Robeline, Louisiana, weighed in a 10.98 lb bass during the 12-1 PM hour on Saturday to win the McDonald’s® Big Bass Splash® on Toledo Bend Reservoir. Not only did Jason win the $1000 first place hourly prize, but he had an official Bonus Tee Shirt to snag an extra $500 and the overall 1st Place Sportsman Package including a 2008 Dodge Lone Star Quad 2x4 and a fully rigged Triton 19X2 DC bass boat powered by a 200 Mercury OptiMax, equipped with Minn Kota trolling motor, Lowrance electronics, Navionics Premium, and Power Pole.

Jason fished the tournament by himself Friday and Saturday and then decided to enjoy celebrating his daughter, Alyssa’s 6th birthday on Sunday, while waiting nervously for the final hourly weigh in.  He was just hoping that no one would come in with a bigger fish to take over the lead. Broadway was using his Berkley Rod and Abu Garcia reel with a Watermelon Red Brush Hog in 8 foot of water up North in Blue Lake. She hit at about 11:15 AM and all he could think about was getting back to the weigh in and hoping it would take 1st place.  This is the biggest fish Broadway, an electrician at the Paper Mill in Campti, Louisiana has ever caught.  He has been fishing McDonald’s® Big Bass Splash® events for 8 years with his father and brother.  This is not the first time a Broadway has taken a Top 5 Overall at a Big Bass Splash®, Jason was in the boat with his father, Ricky Broadway, when he finished 2nd overall at the Toledo Bend Big Bass Splash® in 2006.

Stan Pace of Sikeston, Missouri, finished 2nd Place overall with a 10.13 lb bass earning him a new 2008 Dodge Ram Truck.  Pace was also fishing by himself and managed to get the fish into the weigh in line on Friday during the 12-1  hour to take the hourly prize of $1,000 and an extra $500 for the Tee Shirt Bonus.  Pace was using the famous “Kneel & Reel” technique in about 13 foot of water along the long ridge at San Miguel.  He was fishing  an All Star Rod and Shimano Reel with Sufix line and a pearl white with green back DD22 Crank bait.  Everything was at a dead still when suddenly she hit & jumped clearly out of the water. Pace, a maintenance supervisor at the Sikeston power plant thought, “This is it! He said “This is a fabulous event and I enjoy every chance I get to fish the Big Bass Splash®.” Over the years Stan has fished 15 Big Bass Splash® events including the Lake Sam Rayburn, Lake Guntersville and Lake Fork.

Jason Kezerle of Zwolle, Louisiana finished 3rd place overall with a 9.27 lb bass earning him a Keystone-Hideout Travel Trailer and Randall Couthran of Orange, Texas finished 4th place overall with an 8.78 lb bass earning him a Bad Boy Buggy ATV.   Rounding out the top 5 overall was Le Roy Sieve of Labadie, Missouri, with an 8.74 lb bass earning him a Bad Boy Buggy ATV as well.

Each day of the tournament the first contestant to weigh in a 3.00 exact weight bass wins a fully rigged Triton 17 Explorer bass boat powered by a 90 Mercury, equipped with Minn Kota trolling motor and Lowrance electronics.  Randy Teater of Anacoco, Louisiana was the first angler to weigh in the 3.00 on Saturday-Day 2 and Chad Dyess, of Calcasieu, Louisiana, was the first on Sunday-Day 3.  There was not a 3.00 exact weight claimed on Friday, so the boat was given away at the awards ceremony on Sunday as a random draw amongst all contestants.  Roger Dale Clifton of Cleveland, Texas was the lucky winner.

Richard Goral of Cedar Park, Texas was the last man standing during the famous “Elimination Drawing” and took home a brand new Triton 18 Explorer bass boat powered by a 115 Mercury, equipped with Minn Kota trolling motor and Lowrance electronics.

Michael Rivers of Leesville, Louisiana, was the Lucky Winner to take home a new Hideout Travel Trailer during the “Open Drawing” on Sunday afternoon.  This is a drawing that is open to all of the contestants and spectators 18 years of age and up.

The Little Anglers Division was designed to reach out  to children ages 12 & under and to  promote the future of fishing. In this event participating children brought in bass, catfish, crappie or perch and prizes were awarded each day for the top 3 largest in each category.

This year, the Lake Toledo Bend Big Bass Splash® brought 2,000 anglers from 21 different states looking for the one bite to win their share of the $360,000 Guaranteed in cash and prizes. Sealy Outdoors event raised $10,000 for the Ronald McDonald House® & Select Children’s Charities®.

2008 sponsors of the McDonald’s® Big Bass Splash® tournament events includes Triton Boats, Mercury Marine, Academy Sports & Outdoors, Shimano, Lowrance, Minn Kota, Navionics, Power Pole, (Dodge Trucks) Weaver Motors of Kirbyville, Texas, T-H Marine, Texas Fish & Game, Kite Bros RV Center of DeRidder, Louisiana, Bad Boy Buggy, and Mobile Marketing (Longhorn).   This year, ESPN Outdoors is posting all daily results along with regular updates & photos for each McDonald’s® Big Bass Splash® event to their website ESPNOutdoors.com for millions of people around the world to view and enjoy!

Bob Sealy, Tournament Director, CEO and Founder of the McDonald’s® Big Bass Splash® announced Sunday at the awards ceremony that in 2009 Sealy Outdoors will be celebrating 25 years.  The celebration next year will kick off at the Lake Sam Rayburn, Texas Big Bass Splash® April 17-18-19, 2009 with a “ONE MILLION DOLLAR” Payback Guaranteed in Cash & Prizes.  The “SPLASH” Celebration will continue throughout the 2009 year and the dates have already been set: Lake Guntersville, Alabama, May 16-17; Toledo Bend Reservoir, Louisiana, June 12-13-14, and Lake Fork, Texas, Sept 11-12-13.  Mark your calendars and make your reservations TODAY!
