The 23rd Annual Sealy Outdoors Big Bass
Splash was held on Lake Fork and hosted by Lake Fork
Marina on September 18th, 19th,
and 20th -- 3,074 anglers representing 34
states came to try their luck at winning a portion of
the $400,000 guaranteed in cash and prizes. Anglers came
from as far away as New Hampshire to fish this great
tournament on this tremendous reservoir.
With twelve places paid per hour, 8 paid
hours per day for the three days with cash prizes
ranging from $1,000 for the heaviest bass caught in the
hour to $200 for the twelfth heaviest bass of each hour,
this is one of the few amateur tournaments anglers can
win like the pros.
With the slot on Lake Fork being 16” to
24”, no contestant could bring a fish over 16” in length
nor less than 24” in length to the weigh-in. This opens
the door for anglers to win top place money and prizes
for bass in the 2-pound range. If an angler is lucky
enough to catch the first exact weight bass of
2.5-pounds of each day, that angler would win the hourly
prize money plus a Triton boat powered by Mercury. No
angler was fortunate enough to catch that prize during
the three days of the tournament. There were a few close
ones with 2.49-pounds and 2.51-pounds. All prizes and
monies are guaranteed in Sealy Outdoor Tournaments so
these boats were given away on Sunday. Winning anglers
for the three boats in the drawing were Jeff Johnson
from Hammond, Louisiana, Christopher Rouse from
Muskogee, Oklahoma, and 16 year old Christopher
Rendleman from Lubbock, Texas.
During the course of the tournament 1,039
bass were weighed in for a total weight of
2,103.37-pounds. Of this amount 13 bass exceeded the
upper range of the slot of 24”.
Winning 1st Place overall in
the tournament was Don Jarrell from Henderson, Texas
with his bass that he weighed in weighing 9.48-pounds.
Don weighed his bass in on Sunday during the 6 to 7
o’clock hour. For his great catch he won $1,000 hourly
cash, a Dodge Ram Truck plus a Triton G20HP powered by a
Mercury 200 ProXS OptiMax. Winning 2nd Place
was Charles Gilbert from Ector, Texas with a bass
weighing 8.95-pounds he caught on Saturday and weighed
in during the 7 to 8 o’clock hour. For his catch he won
$1,000 hourly cash, a Dodge truck plus a Triton 17EXP
powered by Mercury. Lawrence Winchester from Atlanta,
Texas won 3rd Place with a catch of
8.79-pounds that he caught on Friday the first day of
the tournament and weighed in during the 7 to 8 o’clock
hour. Lawrence won $1,000 in hourly cash and a Layton
Travel Trailer for his great catch. 4th Place
with a weight of 8.67-pounds was Kenny Heflin from
Diana, Texas. Kenny caught his bass on Sunday and
weighed in during the 8 to 9 o’clock hour. This being
one of the two daily T-shirt hours Bob added to the
schedule and Kenny having purchased a T-shirt, this bass
won him an extra $1,000 bringing his total winnings to
$2,000 in hourly cash and a Stealth ATV. Randy Harris
from Kilgore, Texas caught the fifth heaviest bass
overall in the tournament weighing 8.23-pounds. Randy
weighed his fish in on Friday during the 10 to 11
o’clock hour and took home with him $1,000 in hourly
cash and a Stealth ATV.
Kenneth Self from Salem, New Hampshire
won the elimination drawing and had the pleasure of
figuring out how he was going to get his new Triton
17EXP powered by Mercury home with him. In the open
drawing winning a Layton Travel Trailer was John White
from Dallas, Texas.
This being Sealy Outdoors 25th
Anniversary, Bob introduced an Early Bird Entry
incentive. For all contestants that entered early on any
of the Sealy Outdoor tournaments, their name would be
put in for a drawing with the lucky winner receiving a
check for $25,000. The drawing was held at the Lake Fork
Tournament and the winner did not have to be present.
The surprise of the day and the telephone call on stage
from Bob went to Sandra Sumner from Guntersville,
Alabama.
Anglers should mark their calendars now
for the Sealy Outdoor Big Bass Splash on Lake Fork to be
held on September 17th, 18th, 19th,
2010. There will also be registration on Wednesday and
Thursday prior to the tournament at tournament
headquarters located at Lake Fork Marina.
